HGCA appoints new Regional Manager for Scotland

HGCA has appointed a new Regional Manager for Scotland to enhance its on-going programme of business improvement activity linked to its arable monitor farm initiatives.

Gavin Dick, formerly of SRUC, will be based at the existing Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) offices at the Rural Centre in Ingliston, Edinburgh. He will take up the role in April.

His responsibilities will include recruiting and project managing two new HGCA monitor farms – one alongside AHDB potato division PCL – as well as enhancing HGCA communications with levy payers and stakeholder organisations in Scotland.

Martin Grantley-Smith, HGCA Head of Business Development, said: “Growers can do as much to improve their longer term profitability by improving the way they manage the business side of the farm as they can the technical aspects of growing the crop.

“The pioneering monitor farm programme has already seen HGCA deliver four successful projects for the arable sector over the past six years. By working with colleagues in PCL on this next round, Gavin will help ensure HGCA is better positioned to deliver a joined up approach for levy payers in key areas of activity.

“Raising awareness of controlling costs and providing growers with the tools to make better-informed business decisions are key aspects of HGCA’s work to improve profitability in the cereals and oilseeds sector. We are delighted Gavin is bringing his knowledge and experience to this role.”
