Vintage vehicles and classic cars park up at East of England Show
It's not just about the animals and the agriculture – there’s plenty more on offer at this year’s East of England Show.
One of the big attractions will be the Classic Car section, with an amazing display of almost 400 veteran, vintage, classic cars, commercials and caravans over the three-day event.
The East of England Showground in Peterborough will play host to the array of vehicles primarily from the 20th century – with the earliest dating back to the early 1900s – wowing crowds on July 6,7 and 8.
Highlights over the three days include:
- A range of cars from 1930s providing a snap shot of motoring from that era.
- Commercials from the war years, including an ex-Metropolitan Police Area Car, which has made a TV appearance on Top Gear.
- Rare commercial vehicles offering some nostalgia from the Fifties.
- An impressive array of cars from the Seventies and Eighties, including a 1980 Rolls Royce Shadow II.
- Six vintage caravans – complete with their contents – with the earliest dating back to 1936.
- A large collection of preserved fire appliances, including the oldest, steaming Shand Mason Horse Drawn Fire Engine of 1876 as well as more recent models. There will also be a display of uniforms and equipment relating to the wartime AFS (Auxiliary Fire Service).
- The recreation of an Ironmongers shop in the 20/49 Motor Club marquee.
Barry Chrisp, who has been organising this section of the show on behalf of the 20/49 Motor Club for more than a decade, said: “We are looking to bring an even more impressive range of vehicles and cars to the show this year. Visitors will have plenty to look at and talk about over the three days,”
The East of England Show is the region’s premier family event and will include retail opportunities, interactive attractions and much, much more. For the first time this year, there will be an open-air concert on the Saturday night featuring X Factor finalists Marcus Collins and Janet Devlin.
