Lord Henry Plumb receives top Farmers Weekly Award

Lord Henry Plumb was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at last night’s Farmers Weekly Awards.

Farmers Weekly paid tribute to Plumb who began his farming career at 15 during World War 2 and went on to represent the National Farmers Union and eventually became President in 1970, holding the position for nine years.

Lord Plumb has raised the profile of UK agriculture over many decades, leading marches on Whitehall, creating the International Food Agriculture Trade Policy and championing equitable and open trade, in his position as President of the European Parliament.

He has also set up a Foundation to help young people get a foot on the farming ladder, one of the many reasons he was nominated for the award.

The other big winners of the night were Farmers Weekly Farmer of the Year Robert Newborough and Andrew Ward of Lincolnshire was named Farming Champion of the Year, at the biggest celebration of farming in the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane London on Thursday evening.
