Barony College, Dumfries, have sold their Easy Care sheep flock because they were ‘just too easy to care for’.
Mr Iolo Owen, Easy Care Sheep Society Secretary, explains: “Because the flock shed their winter coats and did not need assistance at lambing, Mr Aitkin, the livestock manager at Barony, said there were not suitable for a college farm. Last year they scanned at 197% and weaned at 186% with none needing lambing assistance. Commercially they were a brilliant success, but they gave the students no experience at shearing or lambing. They were just too Easy to Care for!”
This year’s Easy Care Sheep Society sales dates are:-
- Thirsk on 13th September
- Gaerwen on 15th September
- Exeter on 26th September
- Worcester on 27th September
- Carlisle on 3rd October.
