An Aberdeenshire farm is to invest in a further 150KW of Solar PV after the installation of 50 KW of Solar proved a ‘resounding success’.

The newly installed Solar PV system is now fully operational, and is set to produce 42,000 kWh annually , driving down the farms operational costs and increasing the efficiency of its rearing farm for young chicks.

A family run farm that focuses primarily on the production of eggs, Farmlay has truly taken sustainability under its wing, with the second system due for installation this winter having partnered with renewables experts Absolute to carry out both installs.

Farm Director, Iain Chapman, who owns the farm in partnership with his mother and father said: “The project has been absolutely fantastic, and we worked closely with Absolute at each stage. The installation took just four days and production at the farm continued as normal during the installation with minimal disruption.

“We were so impressed with Absolute that we have now made the decision to push ahead with the installation of a further 150 KW to supply energy to the laying sheds on another farm.

“It’s so important for us to find renewables solutions that work and are totally reliable, as we produce an average of 3.5 million eggs a week, supplying major supermarkets in Scotland such as Morrison’s and Aldi with high quality eggs.”

Head of Solar at Absolute, Andrew McGown, said: “Our clients often highlight the escalating costs of running a business. Renewable solutions can lower these costs, and can even serve to generate a revenue stream. Farmlay is a fantastic example of that!

“For each new client we ensure that we visit the site and really get under the skin of their business needs in order to make the most appropriate recommendations with regards to renewable products. Sustainability and delivering a comprehensive return on investment is our priority in every scenario.

“We have a growing reputation in the North East, following the delivery of a high number of Solar PV systems for farmers in the area. A combination of good pricing, an honest approach, contemporary leading technology and a great install has proved successful.”

Absolute specialises in commercial biomass, wind and solar photo voltaic products. The Glasgow based renewable company is becoming increasing established in the North East following the installation of a megawatt of Solar on farm land since March last year.
