Gleadell Fertiliser Report

FERTILISER MARKETS by Calum Findlay, fertiliser trader.

FERTILISER MARKETS

Demand for AN in the eastern arable sector has slowed as the cool damp weather has continued; the majority of the grassland sector in the west has still to enter the market.

Imported AN is being offered at prices significantly below domestic AN and Gleadell has Lithan 34.4% to offer at attractive levels in all areas.

It has been another difficult week for Urea suppliers with Urea prices weakening in most areas. Demand from major markets is slow but an Indian tender that is imminent could see a price correction.

As international Urea prices have eased, the wide spread between Urea and AN prices is prompting some farmers, who have sold their grain in the forward market, to buy Urea for 2012 in order to lock-in input costs.

Demand for NPKs has been good in recent weeks, as spring drilling has now started.  Potash prices in Europe have firmed.

Global phosphate markets continue to heat up and, even if the spring demand in the US and Europe is lower than expected, product will remain tight.

In the UK, the sale of J and H Bunn Fertilisers to Koch Fertilizer has taken a step forward after being cleared by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT).
