Barclays is pleased to confirm the appointment of Mark Suthern, currently Head of Business Banking, Eastern Region as the new National Head of Barclays Agriculture.

Mark will be leading a team of two agricultural specialists and seven regional agricultural managers and their respective teams supporting farmers throughout the UK.

After graduating from Sheffield Hallam University with a Geography Degree, Mark worked in industry for a short while before joining Barclays in 1986.

During his career as a professionally qualified banker, Mark has specialised in relationship management, business banking, financial planning and spent a number of years working within a lending sanctioning team.  He has also gained extensive experience of leading regional teams in the North East, South East and London.

Mark’s current role is Head of Business Banking for Eastern Region where he leads a team of two hundred business managers based in ten areas across the region. Each business manager works closely with local businesses to help them to grow.

Mark’s appointment follows Martin Redfearn’s decision to step back from the day to day leadership of Barclays Agriculture, and rather than retire, to continue to remain with Barclays and support the business as a National Agricultural Policy Manager.

Oliver McEntyre will continue to be the National Agriculture Specialist.

Outside of work, Mark is involved with a number of local organisations and is currently Chair of a Parish Council – whilst still trying to watch Leicester Tigers and support Middlesbrough FC.
