Looking to grow worldwide markets for its British-built range of cultivation, drills and seeding equipment, Sumo has appointed an export manager.

Chris Murphy, who is based in Southern Ireland, joins the growing team, headquarted in Melbourne, Yorkshire.

Chris has worked in agriculture all his life, and has held previous roles with Lely and Afrimilk, where he covered central and eastern Europe for the company’s herd management technology.

While he’s keen to point out it takes time to develop relationships, and set up global dealer networks, he’s certain he can grow a good business, saying that the Sumo range is renowned for its durability and strength. His priority markets are Germany, France and Poland, and he is already focusing on contacting potential dealers in these countries.

“I am really looking forward to the challenge this new role offers,” he says. “I want to drive the export business forward, and believe there’s particularly a big opportunity for the whole Sumo range, while I see particularly good opportunities for the DD and subsoiling equipment.”

Managing director Simon Herring has welcomed the new appointment saying: “This is a big step forward for Sumo, and is an indication of the commitment we have to growth, and developing a range of farming equipment that will suit very different soil types and agricultural methods across the world.”
