Sophie Evans, winner of the Young Achiever Award with Tony Valentine from Tufts of Bradenham
Norfolk’s agricultural star of the future has been found! Sophie Evans was named as the Wayland Agricultural Society’s ‘Young Achiever of the Year 2014′ at this year’s Wayland Show. The award is sponsored by Tufts of Bradenham and is further supported by Brown & Co, Poultec and Weco Engineering.
The Young Achiever award is designed to recognise outstanding dedication and contribution to agriculture, horticulture, wildlife or any other rural related sector or industry.
Sophie, 25, lives in Swaffham with her newly-wed husband and works for Traditional Norfolk Poultry, who are based in Shropham, and she has worked there for the last three years.
Sophie impressed the judges immediately with her confident approach to the panel and by her ability to talk about her job with passion and enthusiasm. She further advanced herself with a wonderful booklet and a PowerPoint presentation was available for the judges to view. She is very knowledgeable in her chosen career and is currently doing some excellent work with the RSPCA Freedom Foods to enrich the environment for the animals on her farms.
Tony Valentine, Managing Director of Tufts, a sponsor of the Young Achiever Award said: “We congratulate Sophie, Arnie and Ben on their efforts and superb presentation.”
Sophie won £100 cash prize and will also receive industry specific training and/or mentoring that will help her progress her career that could be worth up to £2000.
Ian Whettingsteel, chairman of the Wayland Agricultural show said : “We are proud to be supporting young people who are involved in countryside activities. This competition is a great chance to celebrate those people who have just started their involvement in rural life, and to encourage them to become crucial members of the community in the future. Well done to Sophie!”
All entrants were required to demonstrate and share their commitment and involvement to their related subject including their achievements and their aspirations.
Mr Arnold Warsop, 19, took second place and Mr Ben Plumb, 22, took third place both receiving a trophy and £50 each.
