Somerset cheese-maker wins prestigious honour at International Cheese Awards

Yesterday, the British Cheese Board awarded the prestigious Nantwich Show Cheese Industry Award to Craig Mitchell, Operations Manager at Lubborn Cheese in Somerset.

Now in its sixth year, the annual award recognises outstanding long term commercial or voluntary contributions to the UK cheese industry. This year’s winner has been involved with the development and production of soft mould ripened cheese at Lubborn for nearly 30 years, helping to establish Somerset Brie as a leading brand in the market and contributing to the development of numerous range extensions.

Having seen Lubborn grow as a company of the past three decades, Craig is now an important part of one of the largest dairy companies in Europe and has been known to impress even his French colleagues with the outstanding quality of Lubborn’s Somerset Brie – what better commendation?!

On receiving the BCB Nantwich Show Cheese Industry Award, Craig Mitchell said: “This is the proudest day of my life! I am deeply honoured to receive such a prestigious award from the British Cheese Board. It has been my passion, and indeed my life, to be part of such a successful company as Lubborn Cheese.”

Nigel White, Secretary of the British Cheese Board said: “Craig has made a significant contribution to the British Cheese industry over the past 30 years, something which we are proud to recognise by presenting him with this award. His long term commitment to the industry and his contribution to making excellent, award winning white mould cheeses make him a truly deserving winner.”
