Ecosyl to sponsor first Royal Welsh Grassland Event

ECOSYL Products, Britain’s premier silage additive manufacture, is to sponsor Wales’ first national grassland event to be held at Pentre Farm, Merthyr Cynog, near Brecon on Friday 8 June 2012.

Pentre, the home farm of 2012 Royal Welsh Agricultural Society President John Davies, has previously hosted events for the National Sheep Association and will devote around 100 acres to this first Royal Welsh Grassland Event, organised as part of Breconshire’s featured county programme in the run-up to the Royal Welsh Show in July.

John Davies said: “This major new national event will focus on how farmers can meet the technical challenges of food production and climate change so it is appropriate that we welcome Ecosyl Products, recent winners of the Queen’s Award for Innovation, as a main sponsor.”

Ecosyl managing director, Dr Andy Beardsmore said: “We are delighted to be involved with the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society in sponsoring this new technical event. Grass is the most important crop in the economy of Welsh agriculture for both meat and milk production and its efficient conservation and utilisation are central to Wales and UK farming’s goal of sustainable intensification.”

The Royal Welsh Grassland Event will feature plots of varieties of grasses with technical demonstrations by the Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences (IBERS), Aberystwyth University as well as working demonstrations of all the latest hay and silage making equipment from the leading manufactures. There will also be technical seminars, a high-speed shearing competition and, with the event timed to coincide with school half-term holidays, a busy social programme to make it a real farming family day out.
