The Campaign for Wool Wool Week is bigger and better!
The UK looks set to see a massive celebration of wool from North to South as the Campaign for Wool (CfW) gets ready for its second national Wool Week (5th-11th September).
Launching the major Wool Modern exhibition in La Galleria on Pall Mall in central London the Campaign will showcase the amazing glamour and diverse potential of wool when in the hands of some of the worlds leading designers. Vivienne Westwood, Erdem, Galliano, Alexander Mcqueen -.have all created unique pieces. The exhibition is open for a month and admission is free to the public. It will also host a series of events for colleges, industry and organisations during that period to inspire the future use of wool.
A second grass roots promotion – LoveWool UK – will bring UK-wide outreach for the CfW as lovers of wool across the country jump on the wool bandwagon to host their own event. LoveWool UK is a freestyle celebration which encourages anyone, any group or retailer to do something fun with wool during Wool Week.
Over 300 (increasing daily) separate internet sign-ups show the enthusiasm for wool is large and small and countrywide. From an organised sheep run down the high street in Glastonbury to a group of quirky ladies who are planning to knit cakes on their day trip to France to leave in Paris patisseries and on to a solitary wool lover knitting socks for Christmas on the beach at Robin Hoods Bay. The public love it – there is a true sense of wool excitement in the air. Bridgette Kelly of the British Wool Marketing Board said.
In addition, there are many retail events and activities, LoveWool UK will host events in John Lewis stores across the country, a multitude of local wool events is listed on the CfW website and the major fashion partners from Top Shop to Burberry are all planning wool promotions.
The Princes Campaign has captured the mood of the moment. There has been a gathering of momentum throughout the whole year, whilst Wool Week is a focus for serious retail activity and promotion, as LoveWool UK is showing, it is also about celebration and having fun. It is increasingly evident through our organised activity that from the designer to the home-knitter, there is a renewed passion for wool. Ian Hartley, CEO of the British Wool Marketing Board and Director of the CfW said.
