Chuffing brilliant Steam and Vintage Extravaganza a complete success!

For more than thirty years, the Gloucestershire Steam and Vintage Extravaganza has provided a memorable weekend for the all the family. This years, which took place from the 5th 7th August, proved that the combination of heritage from a bygone age and the thrill of a modern day society is still appealing. Despite the typically changeable weather of the British summer, the show attracted a record of over 24,000 visitors.

Once a comparatively modest show for steam enthusiasts, the Gloucestershire Steam and Vintage Extravaganza has grown year on year. This year it had to move from its previous home at Kemble Airfield to South Cerney Airfield in Cirencester to cater for the increase number of exhibitors and visitors. For 2011, it boasted a list of attractions and exhibits than ran into the thousands. In addition to more than 100 steam-powered locomotives, rollers and traction engines, the Extravaganza was also home to one of the largest classic car shows in the UK. Plus, vintage buses, tractors, motorcycles and military vehicles. There was even a flypast from Spitfires and a display from the Red Arrows.

Avid collectors had the opportunity to pick up and antique bargain while children were entertained by the animals and rare breeds in the Countryside arena and rides within the vintage fun fair.

Thanks to the success of the weekend, the Gloucestershire Steam and Vintage Extravaganza also raised thousands of pounds for charity.

Rebecca Nicholls, Publicity Officer for the Extravaganza said, “We are delighted with the turnout for this years show. It was a fantastic weekend and the quality of the displays and exhibits exceeded our expectations. South Cerney Airfield is a great location and wed like to thank everybody who attended.
