High-welfare veal recognised by Compassion in World Farming

Brookfield Farm, a high-welfare veal range, has been awarded a Calf Commendation Award at this years Good Farm Animal Welfare Awards run by Compassion in World Farming. Brookfield Farm is supplied by Tarrant Valley Livestock, a high-welfare calf and beef rearing operation which is a joint venture between farmer, David Tory, and meat suppliers and processers, DB Foods.

Tarrant Valley Livestock rears black and white bull calves sourced from the dairy industry. All of the veal in the Brookfield Farm range is produced on farms in the West Country. Thecalves are reared on straw bedding, in groups, for up to eight months with unrestricted access to food, barley straw and water. Brookfield Farm welfare-friendly veal is also RSPCA Freedom Food accredited.

The Brookfield Farm range also includes pork, chicken, lamb and beef. All of the meat is sourced from the West Country and is RSPCA Freedom Food accredited.

DB Foods supplies both high street and catering butchers throughout the UK with a comprehensive range of fresh & frozen meat products. Established in 1991, DB Foods is one of the largest independent wholesalers in the UK and has recently moved into a new purpose built site in Poole, Dorset to accommodate its continued growth. Using its own fleet of refrigerated vehicles it is able to offer a highly efficient nationwide delivery service. By sourcing its products directly with producers both in the UK and abroad, DB Foods has the advantage of being able to offer top quality products at consistentlycompetitive prices.

Tarrant Valley Livestock is a joint venture calf and beef rearing operation between David Tory of Tarrant Crawford and Abbey Farms and DB Foods. Tarrant Valley Livestock will supply meat to the Brookfield Farm brand. All meat is locally produced in the West Country and is RSPCA Freedom Food accredited. This venture represents a significant commitment to sustainability, with the total supply chain costs being shared across investment, livestock and rearing, ensuring that the farmer has a future guarantee for volumes and prices paid.
