Simpsons Malt invest in growth
Family owned Simpsons Malt has unveiled a new state-of-the-art fertiliser plant at its headquarters in Berwick-upon-Tweed.
Costing in the region of £250,000, the continuous flow blender will enable the business to increase fertiliser production to 100 tonnes per hour and allow for unsurpassed quality and consistency.
This is the latest in a number of investments the company has made in its agricultural merchanting businesses, McCreath, Simpson and Prentice (MSP) and Forfar-based, John Guthrie. The company has recently upgraded its seed plant and further increased storage capacity for seed grain and fertiliser.
Commenting on the latest investment, managing director Tim McCreath said: “The new plant will improve our production capacity, efficiency and the quality of the end product we supply to our 3,000 farming customers.”
MSP produces bespoke fertiliser for grass, oil seed rape, wheat, winter barley, spring barley, oats and beans. It also imports a number of specialist fertilisers from Europe.
