Top British Show Jumpers invited to compete at HOYS


Today, Horse of the Year Show announced the ten British Show Jumpers who automatically qualify to compete in the International classes at the worlds most famous horse show, held at Birminghams NEC from 6th 10th October 2010.

The ten invited riders are drawn from the British Showjumpings Top Rider rankings as at 31st July 2010:

3.    MR G R WILLIAMS (Kent)
4.    MISS E C WHITAKER (South Yorkshire)
5.    MR P CHARLES (Hampshire)
6.    MR J WHITAKER MBE (West Yorkshire)
7.    MRS L J RENWICK (Essex)
8.    MR R J WHITAKER (West Yorkshire)
9.    MR M W ARMSTRONG (Hampshire)
10.  Mr D J NEILSON (Essex)

Due to the World Equestrian Games coinciding with HOYS 2010, Michael Whitaker (currently ranked 2nd), Scott Brash (currently ranked 11th) and Tina Fletcher (currently ranked 13th) do not appear in the list as they will be heading to Kentucky to represent Great Britain in the Games.

There are still two additional opportunities for British riders to qualify to compete at Horse of the Year Show in October. The first wildcard qualifier will be held at Rowallen Activity Centre, Fenwick, Ayrshire from 9th – 12th September 2010 and the second will be held at Arena UK, Grantham, Lincolnshire from 21st 26th September 2010. One rider will qualify from each venue.

The International classes commence on Thursday 7th October and finish with the prestigious Leading Show Jumper of the Year class, which takes place during Sundays Gala Evening performance. The total prize money to be won throughout the International Show Jumping classes amounts to a massive 118,330.00.

Following the most successful show ever, Horse of the Year Show 2010 promises to be another exceptional event not to be missed! This years show will take place from 6th 10th October at Birminghams NEC and will host the finals of the most highly regarded showing and show jumping championships, alongside an exciting line-up of equestrian entertainment. From spectacular displays to tense competition, Horse of the Year Show is not to be missed.

As well as featuring the finals of the most prestigious national showing & show jumping championships, HOYS also runs a full programme of international show jumping classes, five of which offer world ranking points. The crowd favourite Puissance class returns during Saturday evenings performance, with the audience on the edge of their seats as riders tackle the infamous red wall.

Alongside the competition, and exclusive to HOYS visitors, the headline entertainment act will be the much acclaimed Frederic Pignon! Brother of HOYS favourite Jean Francois Pignon, Fredric will perform his very own unique, awe-inspiring display for the first time EVER in the UK!

In addition, HOYS will also play host to the winning H Factor act The Knights of Middle England. Their exciting display features fast paced stunt riding and jousting by a team of regal and very handsome Knights.

The high speed Osborne Refrigerators Scurry Racing and the thrilling NFU Countryside Pony Club Mounted Games for the prestigious Prince Philip Cup also return to the Show alongside the HOYS Dressage Special (Fridays performance only) and the new Dressage Grand Prix Freestyle during Sundays Daytime performance.

With two arenas, 1,500 horses, 1,400 competitors and a huge variety of shopping at over 250 stands, The NEC is transformed into an equestrian extravaganza with something to excite every visitor.
