HDC works with Belgian grower groups to secure new EAMU for celery and fennel growers

A new Extension of Authorisation for Minor Use (EAMU) for 'Tracer' has been secured by the Horticultural Development Company (HDC) leaving growers of protected and outdoor celery and fennel better equipped to control the particularly destructive Silver Y Moth (Autographa gamma).

Silver Y Moth is one of the most serious celery pests, with the caterpillars able to bore through petioles towards the top of plants, as well as eating through entire leaves.

Crop protection staff at HDC worked with Belgian grower groups using Belgian residue data to secure the EAMU for ‘Tracer’ containing (480 g / l spinosad) which as well as protecting against silver Y moth, also works against celery fly, celery leaf miner (Euleia heraclei) and Thrips (Thrips tabaci).

Vivian Powell, Crop Protection Manager at HDC said, “We’ve been working with grower groups, product manufacturers and regulators in the UK and elsewhere in Europe to minimise duplication of effort with regard to residues data generation. This extension of authorisation is an example of the progress being made by working with our Belgian grower counterparts for the benefit of UK growers.”

The full EAMU (1946/2013) and directions for use can be downloaded and viewed on the Chemical Regulations Directorate website at www.pesticides.gov.uk
