An extension of Cruiser OSR seed treatment to include early season aphid control provides an additional tool against Turnip Yellow Virus for growers this season.

Syngenta Crop Protection UK Ltd has announced the extension of its Cruiser Oil seed rape seed treatment label to include the control of early season aphids in addition to the control of flea beetles and key diseases including downy mildew.

This follows receipt of official approval from the Chemicals Regulation Directorate, says Syngenta SeedCare Manager, Stephen Beal.

We are delighted to be able to give growers the confidence of a tool to fight against Turnip Yellow Virus (TuYV), he adds. In six trials, untreated crops ended up with 90% TuYV infection – in these trials Cruiser OSR was the most successful seed treatment in reducing the problem, outperforming treatments that included imidacloprid + betacyfluthrin and clothianidin + betacyfluthrin.

With data from Brooms Barn stating that TuYV infection can cut yields by as much as 25% on average, and taking into account that 90% of aphids are resistant to most sprayed insecticides, this is a timely announcement for those growers who have yet to make the decision about seed treatments for next seasons rape crops, he adds.
