John Torode Supports Fresh Herb PR Campaign
The British Herb Trade Association has joined forces with top chef John Torode to launch a nationwide herb hero cookery competition.
The competition, which launches in January, will have an Xfactor style theme where entrants will be asked to film themselves cooking their favourite fresh herb recipes and the public will get the chance to vote for their favourite online. The top three entrants will then be invited to a cook off in London in May where John will choose the final winner and award them the top prize of 2,500. As well as the adult category there will also be a junior category for budding chefs aged 7-16 years.John says: This is a great competition for people who love cooking and who understand the importance of using fresh herbs to transform ordinary meals into something really special. The best chefs know that fresh is best and herbs are no exception.
Mathew Prestwich, Managing Partner of R&G Fresh Herbs, which is one of the funders of the BHTA PR campaign, says: A key focus is to show how fresh herbs can make ordinary meals extraordinary and were looking at how people use fresh herbs to transform everyday dishes.
The BHTA PR campaign is funded by five member companies; R&G Fresh Herbs, Scotherbs, HumberVHB, Lincolnshire Herbs and Lighthorne Herbs. The association promotes fresh herbs in the UK and offers support across all areas of the industry from the different types of herb production, through to processing, product development and technical issues.
