Cornwall Farmers is supporting the National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs (NFYFC), as the organisation celebrates the achievements of its Cornwall based chairman, Claire Worden.
A gala event will be held in Claire’s honour at the Eden Project in St Austell, Cornwall on Saturday 16 August, marking the end of her year as national chairman.
Claire, 31, was formerly a member of Lostwithiel Young Farmers’ Club, before being voted as National Chairman of Council in November 2013. Throughout her term, Claire, from Cardinham, addressed a range of issues facing young people in Cornwall, including the difficulties of rural isolation.
Ben Cavill, vice chairman of Falmouth Young Farmers’ Club, said: “As a Cornish member, Claire has had extensive input in Cornwall over the years. She has led 25,000 members from clubs and counties across England and Wales.
The prestigious event will see friends and Young Farmers’ members attend the celebration, which includes a Mediterranean style dinner inspired by Eden’s famous biome. Cornwall Farmers will sponsor an evening of entertainment on the biome’s elevated gallery.
Closer working between the farmer-owned co-operative and NFYFC is set to continue beyond the chairman’s celebrations, as the Federation reaches out to more young people across the UK.
Shelley Fletcher-Bryant of Cornwall Farmers said: “Young Farmers’ Clubs are extremely important to rural life and our agricultural community. We’re proud to be supporting them and celebrating the work of Claire Worden.
“We’re planning to work more closely with the federation in the future and hope to become more involved with local clubs and events.”
The NFYFC hosts a number of competitions and events in local areas addressing practical and domestic aspects of rural living.
Ben Cavill explains: “We have over 25,000 members, but only 40% of them are directly involved in agriculture, which is surprising when you consider the association.
“We offer a range of activities including sports, stock judging, floral arts and handicraft. Young Farmers is about engaging with young people and making farming more accessible. You don’t have to be a farmer to be a Young Farmer.”
Tickets for the chairmans celebration can be found at www.chairmans-celebration.co.uk. The evening will include a drinks reception, Mediterranean inspired dinner, entertainment, and live music from Fleeting Moment.
