The Co-Operative’s new “Grown by us” porridge oats
The Co-operative has expanded its Grown by Us range of food to include Scottish porridge oats.
The Grown by Us porridge oats have been grown by The Co-operative Farms in Scotland. The new product goes on sale at Co-operative and Somerfield Food stores across the UK from 20 October, so shoppers can enjoy a warming, creamy bowl of porridge on an autumnal morning.Scotland boasts some of the best farmland so the oats have been nourished in conditions that are conducive to creating healthy, tasty crops. The new Grown by Us oats will be harvested for the first time this autumn and milled at Boyndie in Scotland, strengthening the products provenance.
Grown by Us is food and drink either grown by The Co-operative Farms, or made using ingredients grown by the business. Grown by Us already includes, in season, potatoes, carrots, onions, apples, strawberries, peas, beetroot, broccoli, sweetcorn, honey, flour, apple juice and cider.
In Scotland, The Co-operative Farms also grows potatoes, strawberries, carrots, barley and rapeseed.
Christine Tacon, Managing Director of The Co-operative Farms, said: This is an exciting new addition to our Grown by Us range, which has been so successful with our customers. Increasingly, people are going out of their way to find out where their food has come from and how it has been produced. The fact that Grown by Us products can be traced back to The Co-operatives own farms is a real advantage.
The Co-operatives Grown by Us porridge oats will be available in selected Co-operative and Somerfield stores from 20 October 2010. For further information about which stores will be stocking the porridge oats, customers can call The Co-operative Customer Careline on (freephone) 0800 0686 727.
