How to save time and money on your Assured Produce Scheme audit

nfu

A new initiative to help NFU grower members through their Assured Produce Scheme audit is set to be launched.

The free NFU Audit Pack, which launches today (Tuesday), will provide members with a series of templates, policies and supporting documents to save time and money while completing the process.

Assured Produce registration enables growers to be licensed to use the Red Tractor logo on their produce, potentially opening up new markets and business opportunities.

Walter Simon, who grows 50 hectares of potatoes in Pembrokeshire, said: The NFU audit pack will be a fantastic resource for my business because it will allow me to update many of my policies and statements easily and tailor them to my specific needs. Previously, when needing a policy in a new area, I have had to start with a blank piece of paper and look for inspiration and ideas as to what I need to include to make sure I do not lose my Assured Produce accreditation. Now I can start the process with a brilliant template.

As well as a physical copy of the audit pack, all documents will be available online and can be completed electronically.

The NFU estimates the cost of employing a consultant to carry out equivalent work would be in excess of 400, but this service is free to NFU farmer and grower members.

  1. To order an NFU Audit Pack or to gain online access to the documents telephone NFU CallFirst on 0870 8458458. Packs should arrive within 10 days of ordering.
  2. The Assured Produce Scheme ensures compliance with food quality, safety, traceability and best practice. It covers a wide range of crops including fruit, vegetables, potatoes, herbs, salads and speciality crops such as garlic and hops.
