Coalition Governments White Paper Seeks Public Views
Public views are being sought across England to inform DEFRAs first Environmental White paper in 20 years, which is due to be launched next Spring.
The opportunity has arisen for the public as well as expert bodies to contribute views, idea and knowledge in a document entitles An invitation to Shape the Nature of England.
The document aims to cover all aspects of the environment from bio-diversity, Englands carbon footprint, the green economy as well as many other environmental and social issues relating to the English countryside.
Chris Horn, land agent from BCM, comments This is a potentially vital piece of legislation which no doubt all the various environmental bodies will be commenting on in full. Therefore it is key for landowners, farmers and those living and working in the rural environment to put forth any comments or concerns they have about the enhancement preservation and development of our rural landscape.
Unfortunately the consultation period has been launched at a time when farmers are particularly busy with harvest and then into autumn drilling, however we strongly recommend that people take the time to make representation in this regard. It is clear that all the various environmental lobby groups will be making their thoughts clear so it is vital that farmers and landowners put their opinions forward to ensure fair representation.
The deadline is October 2010. Details are available at www.defra.gov.uk/environment/natural
