Fodder bank available to help farmers through drought
Farmers affected by the summers excessive heat are being urged to take advantage of the NFUs fodder bank.
The free online service, which launched in 2008, is designed to help farmers with shortages and surpluses of cattle feed and bedding.
The country is experiencing the driest January to June spell in 80 years and the NFU hopes that members will take full advantage of the service to appeal for stocks or list what they have to sell.
NFU director of policy Martin Haworth said: We launched the fodder bank after experiencing some of the wettest summers on record. We now hope we can replicate its success during the dry weather which is starting to impact on our farmer members, especially those who had to feed animals throughout a prolonged winter this year.
We hope members use this free service to help off-load any surplus requirements which others are so desperate for during this dry spell.
