Royal seal of approval for new NFU Roadshow
His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales gave the Royal seal of approval to the NFUs newly designed travelling farm today. The eye-catching roadshow was debuting its new look at the Royal Cornwall Show.
First launched in 1999, the roadshow has been given a complete makeover with farming-related designs to make it stand out as it travels across the country.
Prince Charles posed for photos with eight-year-old Maria Warne, from Port Isaac, who was enjoying a meeting with one of the roadshows returning faces, Annabelle the model dairy cow.
Features in the new design include a farmland stage with an Astroturf floor, landscape backdrop with video footage of farm animals, tractors and crops, straw bale and cow-hide seats.
NFU Vice President Gwyn Jones said: It was great to see the Duke of Cornwall take an interest in the NFUs travelling roadshow. He has long been an advocate of British farming and its quality produce, so we are delighted he was on hand to offer his support.
The roadshow, and its presenter Lancashire farmer Johnny Ball, has been a huge hit with families since it was launched in 1999. The NFU is very proud of the work that has been done to engage people in a fun and informative way with all sides of British farming and we are sure this new roadshow will continue the great work so far.
Lets Talk Farming aims to provide information on farming in Britain; what wildlife can be found, how our food moves from the farm to the dinner table, and how farmers are meeting environmental challenges while producing food to feed a growing population. The roadshow also includes an activity booklet for children as well as a Lets Sow Seeds pack so visitors can try their hand at growing a variety of salad leaves in their own home.
The popular roadshow has already been booked to appear at 120 venues this year across England and Wales. It moves on to Cannington College, in Bridgwater, Somerset, for Open Farm Sunday on June 13.
The Royal Cornwall Show runs at the showground in Wadebridge until June 12.
