JSR present Pig & Poultry prize

jsr

Congratulations to Mike Raines from Ling Farm, Langtoft, Driffield who has been announced as the winner of the JSR prize draw that took place during the Pig and Poultry Fair, Stoneleigh in May.

Mike had a choice of first prize; either a luxury hamper or a days free on farm support from JSR. As a JSR customer I already receive technical support and back up on a regular basis. My decision to pick the hamper was therefore an easy one, plus it included a good looking bottle of wine! says Mike.

Bev Gibson is Marketing Manager with JSR, congratulations to Mike and thank you to everyone who entered the free prize draw, we had well over 100 entries over the two days.

We were aware that it could be a JSR customer who would win the prize draw and so therefore the hamper was on offer as an alternative prize. JSR customers receive regular on-farm support and technical back up to ensure optimum performance from our breeding stock and semen.

Mike is Unit Manager at Ling Farm – a 1200 sow unit based near Driffield, Yorks. We have recently expanded our unit from 900 to 1200 sows says Mike. Our unit is made up of 900 JSR Genepacker 90s, and more recently 300 Genepacker 120s – the landrace dam and JSR Duroc cross. The 120 is extremely robust, has a high appetite, is docile with excellent mothering instinct and produces lean, fast growing piglets.

We sell the majority of our meat to Cranswick and business is currently very buoyant. Supermarkets are buying greater amounts of British pork that is both affordable and of a good standard.

The Pig and Poultry Fair was well attended, with a good deal of optimism concludes Bev, although visitors were focusing on how to improve competitiveness to safeguard their businesses for the future.
