Ocean acidification and IGBP’s climate-change index discussed at UNFCCC meeting in Bonn.
Planetary boundaries, IPCC errors, ocean acidification and IGBP’s climate-change index were all discussed by the global-change programmes at the thirty-second session of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA), held in Bonn yesterday.
The body is one of two established by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to provide advice to the Conference of the Parties ? the association of countries that are party to the convention. The UNFCCC came into existence over a decade ago, when most countries joined an international treaty to explore options for coping with climate change.

IGBP Executive Director Sybil Seitzinger discussed ocean acidification, and Chair of the Earth System Science Partnership — Rik Leemans — discussed mistakes in the IPCC report, the planetary boundaries concept and the IGBP climate-change index. A theme running through many of the presentations was communication to the wider world and to policymakers.
