Hundreds of Young Farmers across Somerset will benefit from a new sponsorship deal supporting club activities, announced today by South West rural insurance firm Cornish Mutual.

The company, which has four local Inspectors across the county, has committed to renewing and reinforcing its support for Somerset Young Farmers Club for the next twelve months.

The latest agreement will see Cornish Mutual support the club throughout the year including the annual Rally which took place in Somerton over the weekend. Cornish Mutual Inspectors Nick Howe and Andy Grossey (pictured) attended the Rally and presented awards for the handicraft competition, which boasted thousands of entries.

Cornish Mutual will also sponsor shirts and a competition held at The Royal Bath and West Show, a YFC events calendar and rugby shirts for members.

The Somerset Young Farmers has 25 clubs across the county, with more than 870 members. Each club is joined together by five groups Fosse, Sedgemoor, Severn, Wessex and West. The groups organise a number of events each year including county sports and competitions, training, foreign exchanges, entertainment evenings and balls.

Alan Goddard, Managing Director of Cornish Mutual, said: By being involved with Somerset Young Farmers, we are supporting the future of farming across the region which is so important. We must look to the next generation of farmers, to help the agricultural sector move forward and help the rural communities of tomorrow. Weve had a good relationship with Somerset Young Farmers over a number of years and its great were able to support the work they do in the future.

Rebecca Griffin, County Co-ordinator for Somerset Young Farmers added: It is vital to have the support from organisations such as Cornish Mutual. Without the companys sponsorship we would not be able to produce high quality promotional material and would, therefore, miss out on many new opportunities. We value our working relationship, look forward to the future and want to thank Cornish Mutual for its continued involvement.

As well as sponsoring Somerset Young Farmers, Cornish Mutual is also involved with young farmers across Devon and Cornwall.

Founded by a group of Westcountry farmers in 1903, Cornish Mutual is the only general insurer based in the South West.  Even today, the company is still owned by its Members, and remains at the heart of rural communities throughout Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Dorset.

Although staying true to its origins in agriculture (around two thirds of Cornwalls farmers are Members), Cornish Mutual now provides household, commercial, events and personal accident insurance to Members of all descriptions, living or working throughout the South West countryside.
