For linseed its same again please! says new Savvy herbicide

rotam

As growers ponder what to use to control broad-leaved weeds this spring, a Kent farmer says he has already opted for one of Rotams new sulfonylurea herbicides for his crops.

We will be using Savvy (metsulfuron-methyl) on our linseed again, because weed control was excellent, said Steve Hopkins, of Owley Farm, Isle of Oxney, Kent.

We applied it on 110 hectares during the very dry period at the end of May last year and it worked well. The packaging was simple and we did not have any problems with tank mixing. It proved cost effective and we will definitely be using it again.

Owley Farm, which is farmed by Tim Piper in partnership with his father, covers 1,200 hectares of owned and tenanted land ranging from flat fertile reclaimed marsh to hilly clay in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It includes 800ha of mixed combinable crops and some 240ha of permanent pasture.

One of two WDG formulation products launched by Rotam in the UK last year, Savvy controls a range of broad-leaved weeds, including chickweeds, mayweeds and 17 other weeds and volunteers. It can be used on all winter and spring varieties of wheat, barley and oats, as well as linseed, triticale and land temporarily taken out of production.

Savvy gives the best level of control when applied to small actively growing weeds when they are most susceptible and can be used in sequence, or in a tank mixture with other sulfonylureas and ALS-inhibiting herbicides, including Atlantis in cereals says James Anderdon, Rotams Technical Services and Development Manager for Europe.
