Hovis launch the British Farmers loaf
Since the outset of the 100% British Hovis loaf 4 years ago – Hovis and Gleadell have worked with UK farmers to produce and supply a significant volume of premium quality wheat.
Two of these farmers are now the face of Hovis’s latest launch, the ‘British Farmers’ Loaf, featuring a white and wholemeal loaf to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the humble sandwich.
Drew Smith, of AW Smith and Son, Home Farm, Withcall, Lincolnshire and Gavin Davies, Farm Manager for Stowell Farms in Wiltshire have been involved with the 100% British loaf since Gleadell first became involved with Hovis in the production of UK grown Canadian wheat in Spring 2009.
Both growers are extremely proud to be supplying their own high quality wheat produce to Hovis and have been working with Hovis bakers to create the white and wholemeal British Farmers Loaf.
Drew now finds himself as the face of the Soft White loaf and Gavin the same on the Wholemeal.
Gary Sharkey, Premier Foods Head of wheat Procurement said: “In this year of British celebration, we believe more consumers will be choosing to buy British brands, supporting British jobs, and our programme to source 100% British wheat for our Hovis loaves clearly demonstrates our ongoing commitment to supporting British Agriculture.”
Gleadell are delighted to be closely connected to the Hovis brand – Gleadell Managing Director David Sheppard commented: “Gleadell are proud to have played a part in the creation of the 100% British loaf and pleased to see the next step with the launch of the British Farmers Loaf. Hovis are backing British farming and our farmer customers are enthused by their involvement in the production of quality wheat for a quintessential British brand.”
The new British Farmers loaf is being stocked in supermarkets NOW and a TV advert will be on air imminently. Watch this space.
