Leading dairy industry experts to speak at 2010 Large Herd Seminar

Leading experts in practical dairy herd management, research, nutrition and
health from around the world will provide UK dairy producers, large animal vets
and agricultural supply trade professionals who attend the 2010 Large Herd
Seminar with all the latest research findings, management information and
techniques from around the world. Entitled ‘Maximising Profitability by
Improving Lifetime Yield’ the event will be held at Woodbury Park Hotel, Golf
and Country Club, Woodbury Castle in Devon on 22nd and 23rd June.

Focusing on how dairy farmers can improve lifetime yield, the Large Herd Seminar
is organised jointly by Lillico Attlee, one of the UK’s largest privately-owned
agricultural merchants, and the Evidence Based Veterinary Consultancy, a
progressive, vet-based dairy management practice in Penrith which provides
independent advice to the dairy sector. Event sponsors include Arm & Hammer,

Following a successful formulae, the 2010 Large Herd Seminar will comprise two
stand-alone events, with delegates able to attend either one, or both. On
Tuesday evening the four-speaker pre-Seminar aimed at veterinary surgeons, more
technically-minded farmers and technical advisers from the agricultural supply
industry will focus on ‘Improving Lifetime Yield’. On Wednesday, the Large Herd
Seminar will include four two-hour sessions entitled: ‘Cow Care leads the way to
Lifetime Yield’, ‘Managing for lifetime yield – How do they do it?’, ‘The
effects of reproduction and nutrition on lifetime yield’ and ‘Lifetime yield
starts with breeding’.

Amongst the list of distinguished speakers from around the world will be Dr Mike
Hutjens from the Dairy and Animal Sciences Department, University of Illinois,
who will consider ‘The role of nutrition efficiency in improving lifetime
yield’, and Dr Paul M. Fricke, Professor of Dairy Science and Extension
Specialist in Dairy Cattle Reproduction, University of Wisconsin, who will focus
on the ‘Practical on-farm implementation of the latest reproductive research’.

Tickets for the Vet pre-seminar cost 60, those for the Large Herd Seminar 75
and a subsidised rate of 45 is available to dairy farmers/herd managers for the
Wednesday programme. A discounted rate of 225 is available to those attending
