National direct-to-door agricultural seed website launched

Agricultural retailer and crop marketing company, Wynnstay, has launched a new seed sales website which specialises in the retail of agricultural grass and root crop seeds direct to farmers right across the UK.

The new service, www.grasslandseeds.co.uk, features a range of grass mixtures from high yielding, short-term silage leys to longer-term, palatable grazing blends, as well as a wide selection of herbage seeds and root crops for winter grazing.

Prior to launching the new website, Wynnstay has been selling its own range of grass mixtures across the West Midlands and throughout Wales via our team of on-farm sales specialists and direct to customers via our retail stores, explains Adam Simper, Wynnstays grass seeds product manager.

The success of the existing arrangement and popularity of the Wynnstay range puts the companys seed sales division amongst the top five retailers of grass seed mixtures in the UK.  The new website will help us to build on this strong position by making our grass mixtures and root seeds available for next day delivery to farmers throughout the UK.

All seeds sold via the grasslandseeds.co.uk website will be despatched from Wynnstays state-of-the-art seed cleaning, production and packaging facility at Astley Park, Shrewsbury.

We hope that our seed mixtures will become as well recognised and valued nationally as they currently are on a local basis, says Mr Simper who believes that Wynnstays seed range offers three important advantages to livestock farmers.

Firstly, the majority of the grass seed used in Wynnstays bespoke mixtures is grown under contract by farmers in Shropshire and Herefordshire.  This seed is then cleaned to the highest standards at Wynnstays facility near Shrewsbury.  Most grass seed companies import the majority of their seed from the continent, says Mr Simper.  By using locally grown seed, not only are we supporting British growers, but we are also able to closely scrutinise the quality of each batch of seed as it is produced and have a greater influence on production costs.

Secondly, by remaining independent, Wynnstay is able to source its grass varieties from all of the major seed breeders.  That means we have no bias towards any individual company.  As such, we have the freedom to identify the strengths and weaknesses in each breeding programme, and to formulate mixtures using a wide range of genetic material.

Wynnstays third key benefit to farmers is its ability to supply high quality seed mixtures at competitive prices.  Grass seed is just the same as any other product, Mr Simper continues.  You will only get what you pay for, and whilst there may be cheaper seed ranges available, the quality of Wynnstays products guarantees excellent value through improved crop performance.

The new grasslandseeds.co.uk service will operate on a nationwide basis with next day delivery available throughout the UK.  Wynnstays dedicated seed specialists are also available via the telephone to provide independent technical advice to livestock and dairy farmers on which leys and re-seeding strategies will help to maximise productivity.

In addition to the information and prices relating to the full range of seeds, the website also provides clear and useful information on the value and benefits of regular reseeding, as well as tips and guidance for ensuring successful crop establishment.

Seed orders can be placed online at www.grasslandseeds.co.uk or by calling the Wynnstay National Seed Sales Hotline on 0800 116 4656.  Alternatively, existing Wynnstay customers can order directly from their local Wynnstay Store or sales representative
