New Cutting Edge Lackham Workshop Aids Land-Based Studies
A new workshop has been officially opened at Wiltshire College Lackham, the
600 acre estate in Wiltshire that guides more than 800 students each year
through their land based studies.
The workshop will be used by students across a range of courses but
particularly Forestry and Arboriculture. The workshop has been outfitted for
students to learn how to use power tools such as chainsaws.
The workshop was opened by Martin Whitlock, Area Sales Manager for Stihl.
Martin is an ex-student and completed a National Diploma and HNC in
Agricultural Engineering in the 1980s.
He said As an ex-student its nice to be in a position to do something
beneficial to the College. This is an excellent new facility.
Stihl have a positive ongoing relationship with the College and have
generously donated chainsaw boots and protective clothing to students as
well as training and safety manuals and DVDs. After the workshop opening, Wiltshire College students were able to try out some of Stihls new products for themselves and were invited to give feedback.
Student Ceri Cockram, a Tree Surgeon from Gloucestershire is taking the
Foundation Degree in Rural Environmental Management. She said The
additional facilities at the workshop will give us the opportunity to try out more learning tools than we could before.
Stihl, which specialises in chainsaws and garden power tools, provides a
support package to many Colleges who run courses in Arboriculture and
Forestry.
