Warburtons, the UKs leading baker, is set to launch all-British loaves baked using 100 per cent premium quality British wheat from its network of 320 farmers across the UK, available to retailers from March 2010.

The loaf is a celebration of British farming developed in conjunction with two outstanding British wheat-farmers Tom Tupper and Ian Waller whose wheat has been used, along with others, to create the new loaves.

Warburtons is passionate about quality, and has been working in partnership with its Open Field farmers in the UK for the past 10 years to grow wheat to the highest standard. This work on wheat quality, along with Warburtons bakery expertise, has allowed Warburtons to create the new all British loaves. Warburtons current product range is manufactured using a blend of British and Canadian wheat and will continue to be so as this guarantees the exacting quality and consistency standards Warburtons demands for its consumers.

Jonathan Warburton, Chairman, says: Were delighted to be able to introduce this new addition to our range which delivers the same great quality as our other loaves, but made from a 100 percent blend of local wheat. Its the latest in a long line of innovative new products and packs sizes from Warburtons and will genuinely bring something new to the market place. Weve wanted to bake a British loaf for a long time and by working closely with our farmers we have been able to achieve this and its a great opportunity to celebrate farming at its best.

The two new loaves a soft white and a soft brown are made using an all British blend of Hereward and Solstice wheat, creating deliciously soft, fresh-tasting loaves long associated with the British baker.

Ian Waller, an Open Field British wheat farmer based in Buckinghamshire, who has been growing wheat for Warburtons for almost 10 years, says: It is a proud moment for British wheat farmers. We have been working in partnership with Warburtons to grow wheat to the highest quality in the UK and it is fantastic news that with Warburtons we have been able to achieve our goal.

Warburtons is the UK’s leading independent baker and was established in a grocery shop in Bolton in 1876 by Thomas and Ellen Warburton. Today the business is actively run by the fifth generation of the Warburton family Jonathan, Brett and Ross.
