FUW Issues Bogus Chainsaw Salesman Warning
The Farmers’ Union of Wales today warned farmers throughout Wales to be on their guard if a bogus salesman calls on them offering cheap chainsaws for sale.
Farmers from as far afield as Caernarfonshire, Denbighshire and Carmarthenshire have complained to the union that a man in a black Ford car speaking with a foreign accent has been visiting farms trying to sell chainsaws.
“He claims to be giving farmers a good deal on top-of-the-range chainsaws but after checking them out the purchasers have discovered they are not the genuine article,” said FUW’s Caernarfonshire county executive officer Gwynedd Watkin.
“We have reported the matter to the police who are carrying out investigations. It appears that this man tells the same story to farmers when he calls.
“He says he is due to fly out of the country that evening and that’s why he can give them such a good deal,” Mr Watkin added.
Farmers are advised that if they receive a visit from the chainsaw seller they should report the matter to their local police or FUW office.
