Let The Battle Begin
Ten ASDA beef suppliers will battle it out at the Yorkshire Show in the final leg of ASDAs Extra Special steak tasting challenge next week to discover who is supreme champion.
The steaks selected for the final judging will be cooked in front of celebrity chef and Yorkshireman Brian Turner and ASDA chef Simon Shaw at the ASDA stand (no 346) on Wednesday afternoon at 5pm.
ASDA red meat buyer Jim Viggars said: The response to the competition has been fantastic, with more entries than ever and an extremely high standard. Selecting the ten finalists has been a difficult task. They are all local suppliers who have produced superb quality beef which meets the specifications of ASDAs Extra Special range. Its from a variety of breeds and I think it is going to be a tough competition to find an overall winner.
ASDAs Yorkshire beef suppliers who entered the competition, have already sent cattle to Anglo Beef Processors (ABP) in York. The carcasses have been matured for 28 days before the final steaks are prepared.
The steaks have come from a variety of cattle breeds and have to meet the specifications of ASDAs Extra Special range with a conformation grade of an E or U with a lean fat class of 2 or 3 and weight range from 300kg to 380kg.
The first prize winner will receive a decanter and goblets plus 500 of ASDA shopping vouchers, with second and third placed winners receiving 300 and 200 worth of vouchers respectively.
