Dalton launch the new electronic i-Rototag
Dalton ID have announced that the Rototag for sheep and lambs, produced since 1956 is now available in a Defra Approved Electronic (EID) version and will be called the I-Rototag.
Having spoken to a wide range of sheep breeders to consider which design of tag would be best suited for identifying lambs at birth the overwhelming response from the industry was “we’ve used the Rototag for years why can’t we have an electronic version of that”, said Daniel Brierley, Managing Director of Dalton ID and grandson of the Rototag inventor. “The Rototag was the very first two piece plastic livestock tag in the world, produced and patented in the UK in 1956. Over the years it’s been copied by dozens of other companies and has become something of a generic sheep tag internationally.”
“With over 100 million supplied to many breed societies around the world the Rototag is produced from lifetime nylon and is quick to fit with no blood or fuss. By overcoming some real technical challenges we managed to make an EID version of the Rototag which is ultra lightweight and made from the same material. Mechanically and dimensionally it’s almost identical to a standard Rototag with only the female EID part that sits inside the ear being slightly thicker.”
Having obtained all necessary certification over the past year the new EID version of the Rototag is called the I-Rototag and is available on its own for lambs moving to slaughter or as a set together with the Original Rototag. Both tags can be fitted with the same applicator and most printing can be accommodated on the tag by way of dark contrast laser printing.
