We have just loaded the MV Catalina with 7,200mt of ukp milling wheat bound for Turkey as the first ever shipment from the UK, says Marc Rogerson, Gleadell trading manager. This is another example of the way we are working with Toepfer International, our joint shareholder, to open up new markets for UK growers.

Our 2010-11 export programme is nearly complete and our facilities at Immingham, Great Yarmouth and other ports where we operate round the country have been extremely active. This shipment to Turkey is a pointer to the future and shows that there are markets out there that we can find if the quality and price is right.
HGCA Exports Manager Sarah Mann comments: This season has seen UK wheat travelling to some unusual destinations and HGCA welcomes the news that Turkey can now be added to the list. With global production and quality becoming increasingly unpredictable due to climatic and political factors, overseas customers are exploring non-traditional suppliers for their wholegrain requirements. In light of this strong demand, it is worth growers considering growing quality wheat for the export market, suitable varieties are easily identifiable by the uks and ukp logos on the HGCA Recommended List.”
