There was a surprise visitor to Chelford Market this week as part of Cheshire Easts awareness campaign to promote the 2011 Census.

Census Man dropped by on Monday (March 28) to help encourage people to fill in their questionnaires.

Census Man is currently touring Cheshire East, spreading the word about the census. For the first time in its history, the questionnaire can be completed online.

March 27 was Census day and Cheshire East Council is reminding residents of the help available to complete the questionnaires as soon as possible.

New technology means that the census can be completed online by people of any age and any ability.

Cheshire East Census area manager Liam OConnor said: We all know how important it is to fill in the census questionnaire but this was also about bringing some fun to spreading the message. I urge people to take just a little time to fill in the form and return it promptly.

Cheshire East Councils Head of Policy and Performance Vivienne Quayle said: Here at Cheshire East we are doing all we can to spread the word about filling in the census form promptly. Census Man is a fun reminder to people of all ages.

This time, it is much easier for people to complete their questionnaire and I am pleased Cheshire East Council is working successfully with the Office for National Statistics to make filling in the form as accessible as possible.

You can fill in you census form online at: www.census.gov.uk/2011
