Williams calls for increased checks for endangered species imports
Roger Williams, MP for Brecon and Radnorshire, used todays Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Oral Question Session to urge the Department to increase controls and checks on the import of live animals and endangered species.
Roger Williams said:
It is important that there are sufficient staff, Customs Officers and sniffer dogs at the UKs air and sea ports to ensure that appropriate checks can be made to ensure that any imports of endangered animals and products deriving from those animals are stopped from entering the country.
The previous government re-organised surveillance of live animals and animal product imports into the country.
I will continue to press the Government to ensure that there is no reduction in that effort.
