Olympic hopefuls urge young athletes: Milk it for all its worth
London 2012 Olympic hopefuls Beth Tweddle, World Champion gymnast and BMX World Champion, Liam Phillips, today urged Britains young sports enthusiasts to Milk it for all its worth. Beth and Liam, whose favourite drink is milk, declared their support of the white stuff in a new campaign that aims to promote the consumption of milk in young people by highlighting the nutritional benefits of milk and being active.
Beth Tweddle said: I am very passionate about sport and living a healthy lifestyle and want to encourage young people into physical activity. I think that this campaign will achieve exactly that.“Milk has maybe been seen as a bit old fashioned by young people in the past but it’s a terrific drink for young people, particularly in sports.”
The campaign aims to change the attitudes of 12-20 year olds towards milk.
Liam Phillips said: Milk has always been my favourite drink, I drink it after training and I love it. I think it is a great idea for young people to be educated on its nutritional benefits.
Dr Judith Bryans, Director of The Dairy Council, said: We are thrilled to have two such aspiring athletes supporting this campaign aimed to engage young people in physical activity in the run up to the Olympics. We hope that Beth and Liam will encourage them to consider milk as a healthy and contemporary drink in every sense.
Milk in Action is a three-year EU funded campaign, a collaborative venture between The Dairy Council (England & Wales) the National Dairy Council (NDC) in the Republic of Ireland who partner with and The Dairy Council (Northern Ireland).
