Micron Bio-Systems achieves mycotoxin patents in Europe

Throughout the world veterinarians, nutritionists, educators, researchers, and agricultural producers are all desperately seeking better methods for alleviating symptoms of mycotoxicosis. Although the industry has been flooded with products aimed at relieving toxicosis not all have been consistently successful over both a wide range of mycotoxins and animal species.

The most common approach has been the inclusion of binders in an attempt to capture the toxin and prevent absorption but this has only been partially successful. Some toxins do not bind efficiently to any known commercial binder, while the amount of binders needed to provide adequate removal of toxins is either uncertain or can be detrimental. Other approaches have been tried, such as the use of enzymes in the feed but no single approach has proved entirely successful. This leaves a demand and need for a product that will provide verifiable results for producers.

The recent issuance of European Patent No. 2094107 promises to fill this void. An International Patent Report has been published and examiners for the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) have verified the efficacy of the revolutionary science being utilized by Micron Bio-Systems, Inc. in the development of their mycotoxin remediation products, Mycotex and UltraSorb. Based on this, patents have been successfully obtained in Europe, South Africa and Mexico, and are currently pending in The United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Micron’s approach is unique in that it utilizes three major components: a microorganism, enzymes, and toxin binders. The design and engineering of a product that capitalizes on the scientific combination of these components is ground-breaking. Micron has developed a method for employing the components together in specific formulations for both ruminant and monogastric animals. These formulations include not only the three components on their own, but each in specific combination with the other. The result is ultimate degradation of a wide range of toxins. The ability to provide such thorough and consistent results is likely to alter producer expectations around the globe and result in its application in cattle, pigs and poultry as well as other commercial and domestic animals.
