A sustainable solution for the livestock sector

LEAF exhibiting at Livestock 2012, stand BM – 198 in the Business Management Zone.

LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming), one of the leading organisations promoting sustainable food and farming, will be at this year’s Livestock 2012 on 4 and 5 September.

LEAF will be talking to farmers about how to maximise productivity, minimise environmental impact and gain commercial benefits through Integrated Farm Management (IFM), the LEAF Marque and its management tools.

Sustainable Lamb, the latest newsletter supplement for lamb farmers will be distributed at the event. The supplement includes farmer case studies and a range of articles from industry leaders. The case studies highlight ways in which LEAF’s IFM can benefit lamb farmers, which include helping to reduce forage and feeding costs and increase production of grass fed lambs, through the management and composition of grazing swards and growing of other fodder crops.

IFM provides a framework for the whole farm and is the principle behind the LEAF Marque, recognised as the leading environmental food label. IFM starts with the LEAF Audit, a self-assessment management tool helping farmers review all aspects of their business from soil and water management, energy efficiency and biodiversity, to how they work with their local communities. The LEAF Marque, an assurance scheme based on IFM principles, is increasingly being chosen by a wide range of food businesses worldwide to demonstrate their environmental credentials.
