IOG wants more young people to join its gowing team
The Institute of Groundsmanship (IOG) is creating the IOG Youth Panel to recruit and develop the next generation of leaders for groundsmanship in the UK. Youngsters aged between 16 to 25 are invited to join now.
The Panel is designed to formally engage more young people in the development of the industry (and IOG) by establishing a pathway and structure that will enable youngsters to take up leading roles.
Because the IOG currently has in hand many forward-thinking tasks to achieve its aims and to improve the recognition and standing of the industry as a whole, it is seeking enthusiastic young people to become involved.
Members of the Panel will have the opportunity to act as role models to inspire and support other young people, and to promote active and healthy lifestyles.
They will work with the IOGs professional and experienced team and with the IOG Board, as well as with key industry experts, and will be able to engage with both experienced volunteers and high level professionals.
IOG Youth Panel members can, if desired, also become involved with the development of the IOG as it continues to go forward, attending workshops and development courses, where appropriate, to acquire transferable skills and experience in organisational methods and leadership to serve them well with future employers.
IOG Youth Panel members will also develop and improve their life skills and gain confidence and self-esteem through a work experience internship programme with the IOG.
The Panel which will meet quarterly will be able to present ideas and recommendations for the IOG Board to consider and so play a role in shaping future policy.
Young people aged between 16 to 25 (parental consent required for under 18s), whether or not previously involved in volunteering, are invited to express their interest by contacting the IOG – Tel: 01908 312511.
Selected candidates will be expected to attend (expenses paid) the first Panel meeting during April 2011.
