Forest industry figures recognised in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours
Members of the Forestry Commission and forestry industry have been recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours.
Dr Robert McIntosh CBE
Dr. Robert McIntosh CBE, received his Honour for services to forestry.
He was appointed Director of Environment and Forestry Directorate at the Scottish Government in February this year. In this role he is responsible for policy on forestry, environmental quality, research and analysis, drinking water and sponsorship of Scottish Natural Heritage, Scottish Environmental Protection Agency.
Dr. McIntosh is also Director of Forestry Commission Scotland. He joined the Forestry Commission in 1973 as a trainee District Officer at Thetford in East Anglia. He held a number of different posts before being appointed Forest District manager at Kielder, Britain’s largest man-made forest, in 1986, and remained at Kielder until taking up the post of Director of Business Enterprise in 1995.
Dr. McIntosh commented:
“Throughout my career I’ve always had a real passion for forestry, which remains to this day.
“The sector is more relevant today than it ever has been and a lot of this is due to the innovative and enthusiastic people that work in the industry.”
David Kingsnorth MBE, a Forestry Commission Community Ranger in East Anglia Forest District for 24 years, received an honour for his services to forestry and voluntary services through Suffolk Special Constabulary.
Tony (William) Willis OBE, former Managing Director of Euroforest Ltd., and the inaugural Chairman of the Confederation of Forest Industries (ConFor), was also honoured for services to the forestry Industry.
