Exciting times are approaching for DBG Recycling and local farmer John Hodsman.
Working in conjunction with Agri.cycle, DBG have opened a new site that will enable farmers to recycle farm waste which would otherwise end up in landfill.
The new site situated at Westow will be run as a collection point by John Hodsman. John represents the next generation of farmers, who all need to be conscious of the duty of care that growers have for waste produced on farm, along with the impact this can have on the environment. Re-cycling through the DBG scheme ensures that the maximum is re-cycled into usable products and only a minimum of waste ends up in landfill.
All too often these recyclable products are being illegally burned or end up as landfill.
After consultation with Ryedale District Council they were very happy to endorse the scheme “Ryedale District Council supports this landfill diversion scheme and agrees that by recycling farm waste in this way it delivers the Best Practical Environmental Option. The Council is keen to support waste reduction schemes such as this, which go toward reducing reliance on the local landfill site.”
Kate Parker, Managing Director of DBG [Agriculture] Ltd said, “We are very privileged to have John on board. This is a very exciting time for us as a group and for all of our existing and prospective new customers. We collect and/or receive farm waste and have paperwork trails in place ensuring that customers receive a Waste Transfer Note and comply with their Duty of Care”.
DBG Recycling is currently receiving a variety of farm waste including chemical containers, fertiliser and seed bags, silage and netwrap, cardboard and tree guards etc. A hugely efficient spent shotgun cartridge scheme also operates within the business with many shoots and country estates now re-cycling all their cartridges.
