Time is running out for farmers and land managers to take action to support the Campaign for the Farmed Environment (CFE), so now is the time to take advantage of the free, practical advice on offer at The CLA Game Fair 2011.

The CFE stand (A170), in the land managers area, will showcase options that provide habitat for wildlife, protect watercourses and support the CFE. Beacon farmers and Local Campaign Coordinators will be on hand to provide advice and resources. BASIS points can also be collected by farmers and land managers completing the CPD activity on the stand.

CLA President William Worsley said: The CFE stand at the CLA Game Fair provides all the information you need to support the Campaign. The wealth of practical advice on offer is invaluable and can help you to make a difference.

By embracing the CFE in its last year, not only will you reap the rewards on your farm, but you will play your part in fending off regulation.

Local Campaign Coordinator in Hampshire and GWCT advisor, Peter Thompson, said: Its essential that all land managers take action now. When making planting decisions for this coming year, make sure you factor in CFE management options and decide how the game mixes you choose for next year could benefit the Campaign.

The CFE presents a unique opportunity for land managers and game keepers to enhance shoots on their holdings. Winter cover crops based on small seed mixes, either exclusively or alongside Maize, provide both excellent holding areas and a rich food source for game birds and other farmland birds.

Selected key target options in ELS and Campaign voluntary measures will also provide a great insect rich food source for pheasant and partridges chicks next summer, and a mixed salad for brown hares.
