Meadow Foods supports Newton Rigg students

meadow foodsMeadow Foods has given two students from Newton Rigg Agricultural College a total of £1,000 to help them with their expenses while they study at the college.

The two lucky winners were Katherine Jenkinson and Adam Brough, both of whom are midway through their courses at the college.

More than 100 students applied for the chance to win the cash lump sum, with candidates simply asked to submit an application to win the money that detailed how they would make good use of the funds. Entries included students needing to purchase new books, pay for required computer programmes or even to help fund relief at home on their farms in order to allow them to study.

This is the first time Meadow Foods has participated in such a sponsorship scheme. Nick Wood the farm liaison manager for Meadows Foods in Cumbria said: “We are thrilled to be able to help Katherine and Adam with their studies and we hope that these funds help make a positive difference in the year ahead.”

Meadow Foods is the UK’s largest independent dairy and leading supplier of milk and dairy ingredients to the food industry. The company currently works closely with more than 200 farms across Cumbria and more than 550 farms nationwide.

Newton Rigg recently announced it will be opening a new dairy unit after securing a £3million investment from the Skills Funding Agency. The college also announced that it will be putting £6million of their own money towards the project in an effort to help make more courses available to students. It is anticipated more than 70 new jobs will be created.
