A new agricultural club will provide farms and rural businesses from across the region with networking opportunities when it launches at Bishop Burton College next month.

The Bishop Burton Agricultural Club has been formed from a merger between the Bishop Burton Farmers Club and the Bishop Burton Machinery Club.

Steering group member Richard Megginson explains:

“The aim of the new group is to promote agriculture and rural affairs regionally and to give members the chance to network, listen to some knowledgeable and experienced speakers and to socialise.

“It will definitely be a social as well as an educational experience for members and will give them the chance to share ideas, offer support and enjoy themselves.”

The Club will meet at Bishop Burton College on the first Thursday of every month and the first speaker will be Raymond Twiddle OBE, President of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society and founder of Twydale Turkeys.

“As well as Raymond Twiddle, we are also looking forward to welcoming John Hurst,” Richard Megginson continued. “John manages a number of Co-operative Farms and is also the son of former Bishop Burton College principal Dennis Hurst.

“The meetings schedule also includes visits from Robert Goodwill MP and after-dinner speaker and undertaker Adam Collier, ho will join us for the February meeting.

“The final speaker of the year will be entrepreneur Sally Robinson who is the founder of Ample Bosom. Sally will talk to members about diversification and how she made her business a success.”

Club secretary Peter Roustoby said: “The aim is to build up a programme of relevant and thought-provoking meetings with speakers who will educate and entertain.

“There is also the possibility of organising visits as membership grows and we would encourage farmers, students and anyone who has an interest in rural affairs to come along to the first meeting and see for themselves.”

The first meeting of the season will take place at 7.30pm on Thursday 3rd November at Bishop Burton College and will be free of charge as a taster session for potential members.
