Restocked and refurbished Writtle College officially reopens the Pig Unit

The official opening of the Writtle College Pig Unit went ahead today with Lotte Olsen, Chair of Governors at Writtle College, cutting the ribbon during a ceremony held at the Colleges Sturgeons Farm.

The pig unit at the College has been repositioned to allow greater emphasis on research and a brand new sow house has also been constructed which marks a 200k investment from the College in the operation.

Caroline Flanagan, Head of the School of Sustainable Environments, said: The investment in the future of the farming operation has been timely given the Colleges renewed emphasis on our agriculture portfolio

Increasingly Writtle is attracting high calibre undergraduate and masters students who are going on to make an important contribution both in the UK and internationally.  The new restocked and refurbished Pig Unit goes a long way to encouraging and supporting our students. said Caroline.
